Youth engagement is an important part of this project’s commitment to accessibility, education, and community connection. Where appropriate and feasible, young people will be invited to participate in the mural process in ways that are safe, structured, and age-appropriate, with a focus on learning, creativity, and service.
The project will collaborate with community partners who work directly with youth, including local art educators and organizations that offer classes and programs for teens.
Through these partnerships, mural painting may be incorporated into summer art programming, allowing young artists to contribute meaningfully to a public artwork while learning about collaboration, civic engagement, and the role of art in community spaces.
Youth participation will take place within clearly defined parameters, including supervised paint sessions, accessible tasks such as paint-by-number sections, and adherence to all safety guidelines and waiver requirements.
Youth involvement will be scheduled intentionally to align with the project timeline and capacity, ensuring that participation enhances the mural process without impacting overall delivery.
In addition to hands-on painting opportunities, mural designs may be adapted into downloadable coloring pages and educational materials that explain the meaning behind the imagery and highlight the community values, causes, or nonprofits represented.
These resources provide additional ways for young people to engage with the project beyond the wall itself.
